Everyone thinking about driving a Mazda knows that these vehicles are incredibly safe with a long list of standard features. To make them even better at protecting you, your loved ones, and other drivers on the road, Mazda developed i-ACTIVSENSE. This group of technologies includes pre-crash safety as well as advanced safety technologies. Together they recognize potential hazards and prevent a collision or reduce the severity of a collision if it cannot be avoided. The system relies on some standard components, such as a camera, as well as more advanced items like quasi-milliwave radar, a near-infrared laser, and milliwave radar.

Pre-Crash Safety in the 2016 Mazda 6

The Smart City Brake Support system is an innovative i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology that works at low speeds. It detects objects in front of you and will prepare your Mazda 6 by adjusting your brake pads closer to your disc so it is ready to stop. If you don’t take the necessary action to prevent a collision, the system applies the brakes for you.

Active Safety Technology in the 2016 Mazda 6

The Blind Spot Monitoring System relies on the radar mentioned above to detect objects on your blind spots on either side of the 2016 Mazda 6. If an object appears in your blind spot, the system will turn on a warning light in whichever side mirror represents the side the object is on. The Lane Departure Warning System senses where the lane markings are along the road. If it thinks you are about to accidentally drift out of your lane, it will alert you. Rear Cross Traffic Alert helps you when you are backing up, such as when you leave a parking spot. It detects approaching vehicles and alerts you right away to avoid collisions.

The Adaptive Front Lighting System works when you turn a corner, moving your headlights up to 15 degrees towards your turn. This makes it easier to spot possible dangers and hazards thanks to improved visibility. High Beam Control automatically switches your beams between low and high so you can easily view potential obstructions or pedestrians when driving at night without affecting the visibility of other drivers. Mazda Radar Cruise Control works to monitor how fast the vehicle in front of your 2016 Mazda 6 is traveling. It then adjusts your cruise control settings automatically so you maintain a headway distance that is safe.

Other i-ACTIVSENSE Technologies

Other i-ACTIVSENSE technologies available across the Mazda lineup include Forward Obstruction Warning, Rear Vehicle Monitoring, and Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmission. The first of these monitors the risk of collisions based on objects in front of your vehicle while the Rear Vehicle Monitoring system alerts you if a vehicle approaches on one of your sides while driving along the highway.

Additional Safety on the Mazda 6

In addition to the i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies in the 2016 Mazda 6, there is a range of other standard safety features to keep you safe. These include dual side air curtains, dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, side-door impact-protection beams, front-seat headrests which reduce whiplash, three rear headrests, ISOFIX child safety-seat anchors, and child-safety rear door locks.
