The Mazda 6 is a popular, stylish mid-size sedan perfect for individuals, couples, or families. Out of the three available trims, the GS sits in the middle, offering more features than the GX but more affordable pricing than the GT. The GS trim starts at just $27,995, a low price when you consider all the features that are included.

Mazda 6 GS Mechanics

The GS trim runs on the same engine as all Mazda 6 models, a SkyActiv-G 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 16 valves and a DOHC style. This engine has Variable Valve Timing to help further boost the already efficient SkyActiv engine and features direct injection. It generates 184 horsepower at 5,700 rpm to go with its 185 pound-feet of torque at 3,250 rpm. With the SkyActiv technology and a compression ratio of 13.0:1, it is no surprise that the GS trim is able to get great fuel economy.

It comes standard with a SkyActiv-MT 6-speed manual transmission, but you can upgrade to a SkyActiv-Drive 6-speed automatic featuring a SPORT mode, Drive Selection Switch, and paddle shifters. Sticking to the manual transmission gets you 9.4 city/6.4 highway L/100 km for fuel economy. Choosing the automatic only affects the numbers slightly, bringing them to 8.8 city and 6.1 highway.

Mazda 6 GS Exterior

The 17-inch alloy wheels on the Mazda 6 GS come with 225/55R17 all-season tires as well as a tire pressure monitoring system. There is even a temporary spare tire to help if you get a flat. To keep the flowing, dynamic lines of the KODO design language, the GS has body-colored door handles, sporty bumpers, and door mirrors. These mirrors are also power-operated and heated, featuring integrated turn signals. You also get automatic on/off halogen headlights, a green glass tint with a UV shield, LED taillights, and a tailpipe finisher. The variable intermittent rain-sensing windshield wipers and rear window defroster featuring an automatic shut-off help the GS deal with inclement weather.

GS Safety

The mechanical aspects of safety in the Mazda 6 GS come via Hill Launch Assist, Traction Control, Dynamic Stability Control, the Anti-lock Brake System, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution. Structural components include impact-protection beam on the side-doors in the front and rear, ISOFIX anchors for child safety seats, seat belt pretensioners featuring force limiters in the front, a height-adjustable front shoulder belt with B-pillar anchors, headrests throughout, and whiplash-reducing front-seat headrests which are adjustable. The GS trim also comes standard with the Blind Spot Monitoring System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

GS Interior, Comfort, and Technology

To stay entertained in your Mazda 6 GS, listen to the AM/FM/HD radio, CD player with MP3 functionality, two USB ports, or auxiliary audio input jack. Bluetooth includes an Audio Profile and there are audio controls on the steering wheel. There is premium cloth upholstery, or you can get leather-trimmed upholstery by opting for the Luxury Package. The driver’s seat is 6-way power-adjustable with manual lumbar while the passenger’s seat is 6-way manually-adjustable. Opting for the Luxury Package gives the driver 8-way power-adjustability and power lumbar. All GS models come with heated and adjustable front and rear outboard seats.
